Q: How much hockey experience do I need to play on an Earthquakes team? A: Many of our team members didn't play hockey until they joined the Earthquakes. If you would like to join the team and have little hockey experience, we encourage you to come to our practices and get some experience on the ice (for your own safety and enjoyment of the game). Free skate time, hockey schools, private lessons and open scrimmages are available throughout the Bay Area to help you get to a level that will allow you to compete safely and have fun too. The Oakland Earthquakes team is made up of beginner, intermediate, and advanced players. This might be a great team to join if you are just starting to play hockey. The San Francisco Earthquakes team is made up of predominantly intermediate and more advanced players. Contact us and we'll help get you started. Q: I'm not gay! What do I do now? I still want to play with you guys! A: Being attracted to the opposite sex can be hard in today's world but luckily it is becoming more and more accepted. Chin up little heterosexual. Being straight is not a choice and we understand that. That's why we here at the Earthquakes accept all sexual orientations on our team. Come join us and be a part of our family - we'll welcome you in, even if the rest of society doesn't. Q: Is the team co-ed? A: Yes, it has always been co-ed. We like both sexes equally (when it comes to hockey). Q: When and Where are games played? Is it free to watch? A: The Oakland SilverQuakes, which is comprised of a mix of intermediate and advanced players, plays in the Oakland Ice Center's Adult Hockey League in the Silver B division. Games are usually played on Tuesdays and/or Sunday nights. The San Francisco Earthquakes, which is comprised of beginner and intermediate players, plays in the Faultline Hockey League at the Yerba Buenea Ice Center. Games are played on Thursday night at either 8pm, 9:30pm, or 11pm. It is FREE to come and watch both teams play. Please check the schedule for both teams to find out exact game dates and times. Q: Do you play other gay teams or straight teams? A: Both the Oakland SilverQuakes and the San Francisco Earthquakes play in "straight" leagues (meaning we are the only teams in our leagues that are predominantly gay). The Earthquakes are a part of the International Gay and Lesbian Ice Hockey Association and travel to gay tournaments in the US, Canada, and overseas. Q: Do you guys practice? Can I come to one and skate? A: The Oakland SilverQuakes and the San Francisco Earthquakes hold joint practices a few times a year. They are open practices which means if you want to come out and ptractice with us, we'd love to have you. It's full equipment, pretty laid-back, we usually scrimmage at the end, and it only costs $10. Not a bad deal. Contact us and we'll let you know when the next practice is. Q: Can I meet the team after games? A: The Earthquakes are a social bunch and always eager to mix and mingle. The San Francisco team has a little tradition of hitting the Lone Star bar after 8pm games. Introduce yourself to us after a game or come have a few drinks with us. We're always excited to meet other hockey fans and potential players. Q: Is ___________ single? I think she/he is sooooooo cute. How can I get a hold of them? A: Has Eros hit you with his arrow? Aw shucks, we get that a lot. Feel free to drop us an email and we can get you in contact with the player for whom you are looking. We don't like to give out team members' private info, but we would be happy to pass on your email to them. |
